Professor John Rasko AO, Head of the Gene and Stem Cell Therapy Program at the Centenary Institute has featured in a Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) article on gene therapy and its growing emergence into the clinic.
The article, written by reporter Liam Mannix explores how genetic medicine has gone from discovery to diagnosis, to now active treatment.
“Gene therapy is a new paradigm. It offers the first possibility of curing diseases at their root genetic cause – and the possibility of a lifelong cure,” says Professor Rasko. “And we are seeing that now in patients.”
A pioneer in the application of genetic therapy, Professor Rasko, in collaboration with international colleagues, has previously undertaken a ground-breaking gene therapy clinical trial for patients with haemophilia.
Further information on Professor Rasko and his research can be found on the Centenary Institute website.
