HEH the Nizam made several visits to universities in Europe before a blueprint was made for establishment of OU. In 566 acres in Adikmet area ('The Supreme Heights'), temporary buildings were built to house hostels and colleges. It was in 1934, the foundation stone was laid for the iconic Arts College building.

Rail tracks were laid to ferry workers and construction materials and to speed up construction activity. Chief Architect, Nawab Zain Yar Jung, supervised the overall construction of OU campus.
